CFRO (Co-op Radio) 102.7fm 10pm-12am

Double shot from the Kidz In The Hall’s sophomore album “The In Crowd” on MLE/Duck Down Records. This album has been much appreciated partly due to the strengthen of single “Drivin The Block” and partly due to the fact that many hip-hop fans are looking for a change, a new breed of MC and music. This album and Kidz In The Hall really accomplishes this through a solid release with exciting features and dope party tracks. So go download it and peep it, but then actually buy it as we need to support music like this to send a message that we want a change.

Double shot from Berkeley’s own Lyrics Born new album “Everywhere At Once” on Epitaph. Definitely feeling this release, it is super hype and is a great album to put on to get the party started. It is hype, fun, and most importantly a quality release. We highly recommend checking this album out and for all my US peeps it is available at Target for only $9.99. Don’t be sad peoples of Vancity, because he is kicking his West Coast tour off this Saturday at Plaza Nightclub, note it is going to be an early show.

Double shot from the brand new Little Vic album/EP “Each Dawn I Die” out now on Orena Records. This album has apparently been out for a minute but it was just put on our radar this week and it was a pleasant surprise. This EP is a good look for fans looking for lyricist and quality hip-hop from NYC. Little Vic handles major of the rhymes, but enlists producers such as DJ Premier and Buckwild. Along new upcoming producers Double Shot and Velotz who I am looking forward to hearing more from in the future.

In the words of O-Dog, last night radio show was “BIG!” and you need to go cop it – www.urpradio.podomatic.com. We started things off by highlighting and previewing the catalogue of Guilty Simpson. With “Ode To The Ghetto” dropping next week and me holding it down on Friday for the release party at Shine Nightclub. You know we had to get the man from the D to join us to talk about things including the upcoming Stone Throws release, the Detroit music scene, and first meeting linking up with Dilla (RIP).

We also had Charon Don join us from Pittsburgh talking about “The Art of Life” Mix CD & DVD. Charon Don track “Just Wanna Know” has been a URP Radio favourite for months now; in fact, it made are best of 2007 show. So, make sure you check it out.

Double shot from Snoop Dogg’s ninth album, “Ego Trippin’”. O-Dog insisted on featuring this album as he declared “Snoop is a Boss”. However, the fact that Snoop Dogg has openly stated in interviews (XXL) that he did not write a majority of the content on this album; created a lot of discussion amongst the URP crew. My thoughts are that Snoop is once again proving his relevance and understanding of the game in that he executively produced this album, so I basically feel that he was able to orchestrate and piece together a great and mature work that people will love, and yes O-Dog, Snoop is still the boss!

Last night we were joined by a lyrical legend in this rap game, AZ aka most of your favourite rapper’s favourite MC just ask Termanology. Ever since first appearing as the only guest on Nas’s “Illmatic”; AZ has shown skill, consistency, and love for this game. In our interview with AZ he discusses his upcoming release “Undeniable” (dropping April 1), but also issues of being underrated and yet respected amongst his peers. But, go ahead our peep the interview and mini-throwback of some of our AZ favourites.

Double shot from Moe Pope & Headnodic’s brand new album “Megaphone” on NatAural High Records. These cats are representing Oakland and hip-hop in general with this release. They are bringing it back to the days of the MC/producer (think Premier/Guru and CL Smooth/Pete Rock ish) as Headnodic customizes the beats and Moe Pope rips them definitely worth checking out.

The first person to post a comment about our radio show and hit me up at djsage604@yahoo.ca with your full address will win themselves the new “Representatives” (Touch and Nato) album “Intelligent Design”, some stickers, and a fresh t-shirt (include your size).

Last night on “The Urban Renewal Project” we featured a double shot from the new Pete Rock album “NY’s Finest”, which is fire. Honestly, I am feeling this new direction of hip-hop where producers/DJs are crafting/fitting various artists to the right beats and collabos. In this case, Pete Rock has bought the Loxs & Wu members, LOTUG, Redman, Royal Flush, etc… all together and the result is banana.

CFRO (Co-op Radio) 102.7fm 10pm-12am

Last night out only did we play more then 40 brand new banging tracks, but we interviewed two upcoming artists in this hip-hop game.

Firstly, we had Gencade join us from Spanish Harlem. One of our listeners original submitted us Gencade’s “Closer” track a couple months back and it created a buzz on our podcast page, so we had to get the homie to join us to talk about his upcoming album and the come-up of his fam, Starfam Music.

We also had the Representatives, Touch and Nato, join us to update us on the status of their debut release “Intelligent Design”. These cats from Edmonton are making moves and their hip-hop talents are being recognized by DJs and fans a like from across the border. In addition, there video for “Adult’s Story”, a clever/hilarious play on those Maury Povich paternity test shows, is on it’s way to being a YouTube classic and can be peeped on their myspace.

Featured a double shot from Boston’s finest, Akrobatik’s brand new album “Absolute Value” available now everywhere on Fat Beats records. For more Akrobatik check out our interview with him on last week’s radio show.

Featured Da Young Vet’s, Torae, new album “Daily Conversation” for our double shot. This MC has got the talent and backing of fellow NYC heavyweights such as DJ Premier, DJ Eclipse and Pete Rock co-signing him as the realness.

As far as interviews, we continued with our Queensbridge theme being joined by Cormega, “The Realest” without a doubt. Cormega gave us even more thoughts on the QB movement. If you are still longing for more insight on Cormega peep his recently released DVD documentary “Who I Am”, which includes a killer bonus soundtrack CD filled with all new music.

In addition, as promised we had the G.O.A.T. of female MCs take sometime out of her busy schedule to let us know all about her new group “Almost September” and how the first single banging “Beautiful” came to be. In addition, as one might expect when in the presence of a hip-hop legend, we were treated to some insight about the rap game where Lyte let us know about our power as individuals/customers to combat the BS!

Let us know your what you think about the interviews, music, who you would like us to interview in the future or just your general thoughts on the show. We would love to hear from you!

First off this show is a combination of our radio show live and a portion that I re-recorded as the stations logger F-ed and only gave us access to the first 40 minutes of Tuesday’s show. Meaning well this podcast includes our interview with Medinah Starr we lost out on the Termanology interview we also did that same night. The actually show if you heard it was bananas!

Focusing on the positive we started things off by chatting with Medinah Starr who is a very insightful, articulate, and passionate MC repping Philly. These aspects all come up in our interview, but even more importantly exist throughout her debut album “Beyond Reazon”. Medinah hit us and you up with a earlier Christmas gift by letting us preview the album a whole month before it’s release date of Janurary 22, 2007. I chose these three cuts as I felt they showed the many talented sides of Medinah Starr.

Even with all the talk about the conflict within Wu, ie Rae and Ghost not getting along with RZA and hating on his beats. It is still a good look to see them complete their 5th studio album. And, I am not even going to hate on “8 Diagrams”, because without a doubt it has joints and is a significant release as far as sending a message that the real lyrical stylings and hip-hop in general is not dead.
